MARGAO/ PANJIM: Velsao Sports and Cultural Club scored a thrilling seven goals win against Guardian Angel Sports Club defeating them 4-3 in the Goa Football Association Goa Pro League (Relegation League) played at Chowgule, Gogol-Margao ground, on Tuesday.
Meuton Fernandes was the star player for Velsao scoring all the four goals for his side. Meanwhile elsewhere, Calangute Association registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Panjim Footballers at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.
Jozwan Cardozo the U-20 striker of Guardian Angel took a power-packed shot but was saved by Velsao keeper Pranav Kotarkar in the second minute. Velsao striker Cajetan Fernandes sent in a long ball to Meuton Fernandes who at once collected the ball and took a ground shot which crashed into the Guardian Angel net in the fifth minute. Meuton doubled the lead in the 19th minute. In the 23rd minute, midfielder Gilbert Oliveira pulled a goal off a spot kick to make it 1-2. Velsao went on all guns blazing at Guardian Angel SC by netting two more goals through midfielder Meuton Fernandes in the 26th and 40th minutes respectively.
In the second half, Guardian Angel coach Riston Rodrigues changed the game plan which worked and in the 52nd minute Gilbert Oliveira made it 2-4 as the match progressed, Roywin Maclito Costa of Guardian Angel made it 3-4 in the 55th minute.
At Duler Stadium, Calangute Association led 1-0 at the break with Nickson Castanha scoring in the 40th minute. Crossing over, before Desmon Gama doubled the lead in the 51st minute and Nickson completed his brace at the hour mark to record an easy 3-0 win.
