PANJIM: MIBK High School, Khandepar, and Sacred Heart High School , Parra, emerged champions in the boys and girls sections respectively at the 19th Sub Junior U-17 Tennis Ball Cricket Championship organise by United Sports Club, Mardol, and Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association at Mardol ground, recently.
In final, MIBK High School defeated the Government High School, Amona, in boys section, whereas the Sacred Heart High School defeated Gurukul High School, Canacona, in girl section.
Batting first, Gurukul HS scored 56 runs in 6 overs. Tanisha Velip scored 28 runs and Khushi Velip scored 12 runs. In reply, the Sacred Heart HS scored required runs in 5.4 overs. For winners, Pooja Rathod scored 28 runs, Supriya scored 13 runs to win by 7 wickets.
Joint-third place teams: the Wagle High School, Mangueshi and Govt High School, Amona.
Batting first, The Government High School scored 39 runs in alloted 6 overs. Prathmesh scored 8 runs, Vignesh scored 9 runs. In reply, MIBK High School scored the required runs in 3.1 overs. Pravit Naik scored 35 runs to win by 8 wickets.
Joint-third place teams: the Bhumika High School, Parye, and Sharada English High School, Marcel.
Aditya Angle, former Ranji player and businessman was the chief guest whereas Sanjay Bhandari, corporate head, Nestle India Ltd and Vaibhavi Mardolkar, panch were the guest of honour. Others present were Varad Mardolkar, Nilesh Nagvekar, Dr Datta Bhat, Sandeep Pagi, Ropesh Naik, Dinesh Naik, Nitin Kothambikar, Sushant Velingkar, Manoj Mardolkar, Prakash Kotarkar, Nandu Mardolkar, Dr Ghanshyam Mardolkar, Aniket Naik, Sarvesh Mardolkar, Shekhar Naik, Dr Ajay Pednekar, Ajinkya Naik, Raj Mardolkar, Haresh Parsekar, Nilesh Naik and others.
On the occasion, Goa Sub Junior team players and officials which had won gold in the 28th Sub Junior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship were felicitated by United Sports Club.
Adv Varad Mardolkar welcomed the guests whereas Nilesh Naik proposed a vote of thanks.
The championship technical aspects were well-coordinated by Haresh Parsekar, Nitin Kothambikar, Ajinkya Naik, Nilesh Naik and others. A total of 44 school teams in boys section and 21 girls school teams participated.
