Michel stars in Churchill Brothers win

MAPUSA: Michel Castanha starred in Churchill Brothers Sports Club 3-1 win over Sporting Clube de Goa in the GFA Vedanta Women’s League organised by GFA, at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday. 
The Churchill eves started the match on the front foot and took an early lead in the sixth minute through Chelsea Crasto after being teed up by Michel Castanha. 
Michel then got her first and Churchill’s second goal in the 25th minute with a rasping right footer which was aissted by Laura had no answer to the Sporting keeper. 
Sporting however managed to reduce the deficit five minutes before interval through a penalty which was awarded after Erica was pulled down by the Churchill keeper. Stessi who stepped forward made no mistake in sending the keeper the wrong way to make it 2-1. 
Sporting were unlucky not to see the scores levelled in the 41st minute of the second half when Stessi outsmart two defenders by laying the ball on the platter to Macarena who with an open goal infront fluffed her lines and the chance was gone. 
Michel then settled the match in Churchill favour with a sumptuous 40-yard free-kick which crashed into the net to give full points to her team. 
Churchill’s Michel Castanha received the most valuable player award. 
In another match, Albert Developers got the better off Ambelim SC by a 2-0 win. 
Both the goals came in the 2nd session of play with Akshata Patil and Jozima Fernandes being the scorers.
