MAPUSA: Milagres Sports Club maintained their unbeaten run with a hard fought 2-1 win over Goan Warriors in the GFA’s 2nd Division league match, at Duler stadium, here, on Saturday.
Milagres lead the league table with nine points having won all their three matches while Goan Warriors have a single point from the same number of matches.
Goan Warriors keeper Soma Korgaonkar came up with a brilliant save in the seventh minute to stop Edgar Noronha’s firm header from entering the net with Rohan Pednekar providing the inch perfect cross.
Milagres went ahead minutes later from the penalty spot which was calmly dispatched by Diptesh Naik after Akshay Dabholkar was brought down by Edgar inside the penalty box to give his side the lead.
Soma Korgaonkar once again came with a superlative save in the 15th minute to deny Milagres skipper Sidhart Kundaikar’s well struck 30-yard fierce shot from crashing into the net.
Goan Warriors who were on the back foot for most part of the match managed to level terms in the 20th minute through Chetan Shirdokar who on controlling a long ball by Rahul Naik, clinically beat the advancing Milagres keeper Swizel Pereira with a deft placement.
Goan Warrior need to thank their keeper Soma for keeping them in the match and the score line down as he once again brought two saves in quick succession to block Rohan and Diptesh shots.
Changing ends, Milagres continued from where they left raiding the rivals goal but just could not get past keeper Soma Korgaonkar who was outstanding under the post first keeping out Edgar Noronha`s power-packed 25 yard shot in the 60th minute and then diving full stretch to stop Edgar’s header off a cross by Marc from entering the goal.
Goan Warriors had a decent chance to take the lead but Chetan Shirodkar who was put through by Rahul could not keep his shot on target from close range.
Milagres finally succeeded to get past keeper Soma in the 69th minute who was beaten from a low grounder by Rohan Naik which was struck with a lot of venom to a joyous celebration in the dugout and their supporters to make it 2-1.
In the dying minutes of the match, Goan Warriors keeper Soma received yellow booking and Akshay Dabholkar red booking for indecent by referee Shirodkar.
