MAJORDA: Navelim Villagers Union edged past St Anthony SC, Assolda 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 27th St Rock’s Super Soccer in memory of Urbano Gonsalves, organized by St Rock’s Youth Club, Catala-Majorda, at St Rock’s ground, Calata-Majorda, on Friday. There was no score in the first half.
The teams played attacking football in the first half but failed to convert.
Aldrich Coelho of Navelim Villagers Union had a go in the fourth minute but his long ranger was blocked by a rival defender.
At the other end, Franky Fernandes of St Anthony SC saw his header miss the target in the 23rd minute.
Crossing over, the teams tried to score as Aldrich Coelho fed Aulon Gomes but the striker was timely tackled by a rival defender in the 30th minute.
Finally, Franky Fernandes scored for St Anthony SC in the 35th minute but soon, Aulon levelled for Navelim Villagers Union in the 40th minute.
After trying different tactics, Navelim Villagers Union scored the match-winner through Milton Gomes in the 52nd minute.
