RAIA: Mitra Veterans, Santa Cruz, defeated Orlim Veterans 9-8 via tie-breaker in the final to crown champions of 2nd Kala Mogi veterans football tournament organised by Betalbatim Kala Mogi, at Betalbatim panchayat ground, recently.
In the 10th minute of the game, Mitra Veterans scored a goal from a free-kick taken by Avinash, beating the Orlim Veterans goalkeeper. Orlim Veterans’ Robert Fernandes almost scored with a powerful shot that hit the crossbar before halftime.
At halftime, Mitra Veterans were ahead 1-0. In the second half, Orlim Veterans changed their plans and managed to score an equaliser in the 30th minute, making it 1-1. The match ended in a draw after regular time. In resultant tie-breaker, Mitra Veterans proved to be better shooters. Before the awards ceremony, village priests were honoured.
Fr Canon Lucio Dias was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in presence of parish priests Fr Adrian Furtado, Fr Dinesh Mendonca and other priests, sarpanch, deputy sarpanch and other dignitaries and club members.
