NAVELIM/SANGOLDA: In a fast paced match, Mormugao Zone got the better of Salcete A 3-1 and moved into the semi-finals of the Goa Veterans Football tournament, played at Rosary Church ground, Navelim on Wednesday.
Andrew Teodosio put Mormugao in front in the 10th minute. Uday Naik made it 2-0 for Mormugao in the 15th minute with a first time shot from outside the box.
In the second half Salcete put Mormugao under pressure but Shaikh Aboo and Nelson Landez were rock solid in defense.
Minguel D’Souza made it 3-0 for Mormugao in the 30 th minute. Marcus Carvalho reduced the margin for Salcete A in the 35th minute with a neat placement of a pass from Robert Fernandes.Mormugao Zone will play Quepem Zone on October 12.
In another match, Ilhas Zone defeated Bardez B 5-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the next round, at Sangolda ground, on Wednesday.
Raju Pouleker netted a brace for Bardez B in the 6th and 10th minutes. Later in the 21st minute, Ilhas made it 1-2 through Ramesh in the 26th minute and Pascoal levelled terms for Ilhas two minutes from time.
In the tie-breaker, Ilhas zone proved to be better shooters.
