The 24th men kho-kho championship was bagged by Pappu Boys, Morpila as they beat G-7 Friends, Morpila by one point, at open grounds opposite Canacona Mamlatdar office.
In the women championship, Mallikarjun Sports Club, Canacona beat Pappu Sports Club, Morpila by one point.
Shivaji Raje Cultural Sports Club, Bicholim and Angel Brother, Margao were adjudged joint third place holders in the men section.
Canacona Sports Club and Shradhanand Vidyalaya, Poinguinim jointly walked away with third place honours in the women section.
In the junior boys category, Canacona Sports Club beat Angel Sports Club, Margao by one point while Balram Residential HS, Amone and SRB Sports Club, Sanguem were the joint third place winners.
The junior girl’s championship was won by 9 Star Morpila as they beat Papu Sports Club, Morpila by three points and Governemnt High School, Shristhal and Balram Residential School were the joint third place winners.
In the sub-junior boys category, Balram Residentail School, Amnone outwitted Govt High School, Morpila by one point to win the championship, while Asian Brothers, Margao and Shjivaji Raje HS, Bicholim were the joint third place winners.
In the girl’s category, Government HS, Morpilla won the championship by beating Govt HS, Padi by one point, and joint place winners were Margao Sports Club and Govt HS, Maina-Quepem.
A total of 63 teams participated in the men, women, boys and girl’s senior, junior and sub-junior categories.
The tournament was organized by Prerna Manch and Pragati Manch in association with Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Sports Authority of Goa and All Goa Kho-Kho Association.
It was declared open by Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, who handed over the prizes in the presence of Canacona Municipal Council chairperson, Simon Rebello.
Others present were Sarpancha’s Mahesh Naik (Poinguinim), Bhushan Prabhugaonkar (Loliem-Polem), Navneeta Naik Gaunkar (Agonda), Laxman Raikar (Shristhal), Meena Gaonkar (Khotigao), Umesh Velip (Gaondongrim), Krishna Velip (SP-Khola).
Goa Kho-Kho Association president Gokuldas Shirodkar, Prerna Manch-President Prashant Desai, Pragati Manch –President Mahesh Varik, Sunil Painguinkar (secretary Prerna Manch), Sarvanand Bhagat (secretary, Pragati Manch), besides Shantaji Gaonkar (secretary, Mallikarjun Devasthan) and Arjun Gaonkar (secretary, Organizing Committee).
