VASCO: MPA, formerly known as MPT, officials have responded positively to the proposal put forth by Goa Cricket Association regarding using the MPA’s ground at Baina on rental basis.
Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar expressed the possibility of signing MoU with GCA next month with Association taking over the ground by April.
The local players, especially cricketers, are hopeful for having a better ground to practice the sport if MPA accepts the letter sent by GCA.
The ground has witnessed some of the legendary cricketers such as Sunil Gawaskar, Roger Binny, Bishansingh Bedi, Ajit Wadekar and more who had played in the Arlem Trophy. The ground was also home to football tournaments such as Bandodkar Trophy and Johnny Memorial Cup but currently serves as residence to CISF staff.
“The vice president of MPA Guruprasad Rai responded positively in the meeting which was held two days back. MPA is ready to hand over the control to GCA by April but currently CISF staff use the building as residence. We will find a solution on that first,” said MLA Amonkar.
“MPA does not earn any revenue from the ground and so, they are hopeful of the development of the ground by GCA. The procedures will be done by next month. Outfield is the first to be developed and the ground will prove beneficial to players at Mormugao and Vasco, both,” said GCA joint secretary Rupesh Naik.
