PANJIM: Twenty three-year-old Mumbai-based chartered accountant Aman Shetty stormed into the men’s singles semi-finals in the ongoing Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2024 State-ranking tournament, even as Sanika Kambli beat Tanya Shelyazhynska-Caldeira in two straight sets (6-1) (6-1) to reach the final of the ladies’ single’s event.
Shetty, who is participating in the tournament for the third time, made easy work of the challenge from Caetano Fernandes defeating him (6-2) in the quarter-finals. In another men’s singles quarter-final, Badal Katewa beat Sreyas Prasad (6-4) to reach the penultimate round.
In the under-12 girls category, Harsha Deshpande and Gargi Oak set up a clash in the finals with easy victories over their respective opponents Ovi Umaji (6-1) and Tvisha Sardesai (6-0).
In the under-12 boys event, Ethan de Ataide beat Avanish Pillankar (6-1) and Shaurya Verlekar beat Kyan Mavany (6-3) and will face-off in the finals of the category.
Arhan Gaunkar and Atharv Dakare will meet in the finals of the under-16 boys event, defeating Vedant Naik (6-3) and Krishna Volvoikar (6-0) respectively.
The men’s doubles also saw quarter-finals played with Ashwin Narsinghani-Shantanu Gurav beating Sachin Dukle-Arup A. (6-1), Santosh Gorawar-Raju beat Prithvi Naik-Deepak Nahak (6-0) and Rahul Singh-Badal Katewa beat Reagan Rathor-Hafiz Beg (7-5).
