Evans Quao scored the all-important goal for Mumbai FC to ensure that they seize three points from Viva Kerala and thus, give them a chance of retaining the berth in next season’s I-League.
Mumbai FC travelled to Kerala without some key players due to injuries and suspensions but they were still desperate to end their eleven match winless streak in the I-League. Hosts Viva came into this after suffering back-to-back defeats so they too were aiming for a win.
Mumbai scored in the 27th minute when Evans Quao got on the end of Subhas Chakraborty’s final pass and slotted the ball past Sharath to give Mumbai the crucial lead.
Viva were determined to draw level before half time but Khalid Jamil’s side did enough to go into the break with that goal advantage.
The side from Kerala were even more positive in the second half but Mumbai defended well and limited them to very few openings.
In ONGC 2nd Division I-League, ONGC and Mohammedans played a1-1 draw. NSA and Oil India also drew 1-1.
