Murida B Married emerge champs

Murida B Married cane from behind to defeat Aguad Married 6-5 via the tie-breaker to emerge champions in first Holy Cross Boys Married seven-a-side inter-ward football tournament organised by Holy Cross Boys of PWD at Rosary ground, Fatorda on Sunday. Murida B were trailing 0-1 at half time.
Murida B Married were the better side having former Don Bosco Oratory players in their ranks. However, it was Aguad Married who took the lead through Jose Furtado who beat the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Unfazed, Murida B Married tried their best to level the score but failed to find success in the first half.
The second half saw Murida B Married enjoying the lion share of exchanges but luck did not smile on them as their forwards either shot wide or straight into the rival goalkeeper’s hands.
Aguad Married also had scoring chances but their strikers were erratic. With time running out, Murida B Married made a last ditch effort and it bore fruits when Savio Dias bulged the net in the dying minutes.
In the penalty shoot-out, Santan Furtado, Savio Dias, Socorro Azavedo, Caitano Dias and Joao Soares were on target for Murida B Married. Menino Furtado, Remedious Furtado, John Furtado and R. Furtado scored for Aguad.
Murida B Married were richer by Rs 7,000 while Aguad Married had to be content with Rs 5,000.
PWD Minister, Churchill Alemao was the chief guest. Vijay Sardessai, General Secretary, GPCC who was the guest of honour gave away the prizes in the presence of Fr Kinley D’Cruz, Savio Madeira, India assistant coach and Johnny Crasto, ex-MMC Councilor. Cyril Castana, president of Holy Cross PWD Boys Fatorda welcomed. Secretary Sebastiao Furtado proposed the vote of thanks.
