CUNCOLIM: Murida defeated Panzorconi/Shantadurga by a solitary goal in the round of 16 match of Cuncolim Super League, all-Goa/ inter-ward tournament organised by Rising Stars of Cuncolim, at Cuncolim ground, on Friday.
Voddy Salemaddem, Comba Central Panzorconi and Veroda were the other teams to make the cut into the final eight.
Murida fielded a strong team with Keenan Almeida in the defence, Adil Khan in the midfield and Brendon Fernandes and Clencio Pinto in the upfront. Panzorconi however were a squad of brilliant youngsters who managed to hold a team of Goan stars to a goalless draw in the first half.
Murida’s playmaker Adil was very influential in the midfield and fabulously assisted Brendon and Clencio as the strikers made the regular inroads. The rival defence was active and played a fascinating match to frustrate star-studded Murida.
Man-of-the-match Clencio managed to score early in the second half after he tackled the rival defender in their territory and shot the ball home to give his team the deserving victory.
In another match, Wilander shot Veroda into the quarter-finals after scoring the match winning goal in the first half against Masconi.
Dawlat Dessai sent a beautiful cross from the flanks towards Wilander who made the mark as he shot the ball in the top corner.
Post resumption, rejuvenated Veroda side tried kill the match but playmaker Bersal Viegas was flagged offside early in the second half.
Later, Veroda’s Akil was shown a yellow card for a harsh tackle.
Voddy Salemaddem and Madicotto played out a drab draw in another round of 16 match.
Voddy Salemaddem dominated the match proceedings and had innumerable chances at the goal however Madicotto’s brilliance on the defence lines earned them a chance to take the match into the deciding phase as the score at the regulation time read 0-0. In the resultant tie-breaker, Voddy Salemaddem won the match 5-4.
Comba Central Panzorconi defeated Jerry Boys Poitomaddo 2-0. Allwyn scored the first goal for the winners while Lester scored from a long range to drive the final nail into the coffin in the last quarter of the match.
