MAPUSA: Murrod Boys registered a fluent 3-1 win over Young Boys of Aradi to clinch the Candolim inter-ward football trophy organised by YBA, at Candolim ground, on Saturday.
It was Murrod Boys that held the upper-hand and went into the breather with a two-goal cushion.
In the eighth minute, Murrod Boys surged ahead through Nihal Parab’s header off a corner-kick taken by Nehal Naik.
Hardly had the cheers died down, Murrod doubled their lead after Nehal Naik’s curling free-kick from outside the penalty box landed into the far right corner of the goal to make it 2-0.
On crossing over, Aradi tried to come back into the match when in the 45th minute Shivram Achrekar’s strike slipped out of the Murrod keeper Trevor Antao’s hands to land into the goal.
However, in the dying minutes of the match, Murrod scored their insurance goal through Sigmund Silvera to make it 3-1.
The prizes were distributed by the chief guest Michael Lobo, Dy. Speaker of Legislative Assembly & MLA Calangute Constituency, Guest of Honour Blaize Fernandes, Sarpanch of VP Candolim and Fermino Fernandes, Panch VP.
