Mustifund Saunstha clinch double crown

PANJIM: Mustifund Saunstha emerged winners in the U-12 and mens category in the 1st Table Tennis Team Championship organized by Miramar Sports Club, at Indoor Stadium, Campal, on Wednesday.

In the first match of the day, Anshuman Agarwal bt Advait Mudras 11-2  11-4 11-6, Later, Nagesh Verekar bt Shantesh Mhapsekar 11-5 11-8 11-7 and Jayz Gomes bt Ved Sardesai 12-10 11-6 14-12 in the U-12 finals thereby helping Mustifund Saunstha bt Mustifund Saunstha Sports Academy 3-0.
In the mens 3rd place match, Former state champion Diljeet Velingkar bt Kewal Tamhankar 11-7 11-7 12-10. 
In the second singles, Cadet champion Nagesh Verekar bt Mandar Joshi 11-8 11-8 10-12 11-6. In the doubles, Nagesh Verekar and Yash Naik lost to Rutuj Sonawane and Kewal Tamhankar 11-5 9-11 7-11 13-11 7-11. 
In the next Singles Diljeet Velingkar beat Rutuj Sonawane 11-7 11-7 9-11 11-8 thereby helping Verekars bt Mustifund Saunstha Academy A 3-1 and clinch the 3rd place.
In the most anticipated match of the day, State champion Wesley Rosario toppled Pune boy Vaibhav Dahibhate 11-5 11-7 11-5 thereby giving his team a 1-0 lead. In the second singles, Karnataka youth player,  Shubhankar Ranade bt Veteran champion Noel Noronha 9-11 11-6 11-8 11-5 making it 2-0 for the team.
In the doubles match, Karthik Iyer paired up with Champion Wesley Rosario to beat Deepak Gopani and Vajbav Dahibhate 12-10 7-11 11-7 12-10 thereby helping Mustifund Saunstha beat Selection Smashers 3-0 in the mens finals to clinch the crown.
Promising player awards were bagged by Leoma Fernandes, Aaron Farias and Aarav Iyer.
