PANJIM: Rohan Ahuja, Niraj Saripalli and M. Barath secured two points each in the third round in the ongoing 51st National Challenger National B Chess Championship at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Monday.
State Champion Rohan outsmarted Lalunsanga (1895) of Mizorem, Niraj outplayed Aryan (1783) of Bihar while Barath defeated Kushwaha Sanjay (2025) of Madhya Pradesh. Shane Braganca (1651) lost to Abhishek Das (2228) of Railways to remain on 1.5 points.
WFM and Geno Pharmaceuticals Brand Ambassador Riya Savant remained on one point after losing to Akash P Iyer (2206) of Tamil Nadu.
John Braganca is the manager of the Goan team. There are 281 players participating in the championship from 28 States and 17 Union Territories and public sector institutions from all over India, which is played under FIDE Swiss League System and is of 13 rounds.
There are eight grand masters, one women grand master, 35 inter-national masters and three women international masters participating. Goan team is expected to do better.
