RAIA: Nathan Vales claimed the Men’s Singles title for the third consecutive year defeating Kevin D’Souza 21-17, 21 -19 in the final of Inter-Seraulim Badminton Tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim at the church court, recentlt.
He claimed his second title in the Senior Junior Category partnering Steven Fernandes. They got the better of Hipolito Fernandes and Conroy Rodrigues.
In the Mix Doubles, Austin Fernandes partnering Marolif Fernandes outsmarted Rayner Dias and Shirley Mergulhao. Austin continued with winning streak in the Men’s Doubles too. Partnering Greyson Fernandes they defeated Nathan and Rayner in straight sets.
Shirley too claimed her double crown in the Ladies Singles and Ladies Doubles. In the Ladies Singles she beat Marolif Fernandes and in the Women’s Doubles they claimed the title too as Virginia and Tania partnering each other could not play the final resulting to an injury during play.
Young Aldrich claimed his double crown in the Junior Singles and Sub Junior Singles. In the Junior Singles, he had to sweat it out and was able to defeat his brother through crowd support that kept on cheering him till the end of the game. In the Sub Juniors, he defeated Evans D’Souza in straight sets.
The tournament featured 11 different categories to give everyone a fair opportunity to participate and compete. 150+ participants took part in the tournament.
Fr Jose Gomes, parish priest of Seraulim was the chief guest along with special invitees Sr Ria D’Souza, Sr Mena D’Abrew and Sr Francilla Mascarenhas. President Policarpo proposed a vote of thanks.
