MARGAO: Host Navelim Villagers Union coasted a 4-1 win over Varca Sports Club to move into the quarter-final of All-Goa Eslinda Alemao memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Navelim Villagers Union at Sinquetim ground, Navelim on Monday. Navelim were leading 2-0 at half time.
Backed by home crowd, Navelim dominated the game and forged ahead in the 9th minute when Striker Alvito Colaco outwitted couple of defenders and placed the ball to the far corner of the net. Spurred by the lead, Navelim mounted tremendous pressure on the rival citadel and rocked the rival citadel second time in the 20th minute when Jaison Pereira unleashed a snap shot which dipped into the net.
Crossing over, Navelim continued to dictate terms and created umpteen forays into the rival territory. Bitu Singh put the issue beyond doubt soon after resumption. Dalvin Costa inflated the tally midway in the second sessions. Varca managed to score the consolation goal at fag end.

Sushmeeta wins diving gold

PANJIM: Sushmeeta Vasta of Goa University won the gold medal in the one meter diving event at All India Inter-University Aquatics Championship, organized by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab.
This is the forth year Susmeeta has achieved medal winning position. She has earlier represented India at World University Games held, at Kazan, Russia in July, 2013.
Dr Satish R. Shetye, vice chancellor and Prof. V P Kamat, registrar of Goa University felicitated Sushmeeta and her father Suhas Vasta on this proud achievement.
