Navelim FC clinch Sesa Vedanta Cup U-15 girls title

PANJIM: Navelim FC emerged winners in the Sesa Vedanta Cup U-15 girls tournament defeating Sinquerim FC 5-0 in the final played on the occasion of International Women’s Day, at Sirsaim ground, recently.  

 Navelim FC’s Shreya Naik bagged the best goalkeeper award while Clea Colaco was named the player of the match. Acira Fernandes was given the player of the tournament award.

 The day was further marked by an array of exhibition matches, including the U-13 girls tournament, senior women’s exhibition match, veterans women’s exhibition match, and women’s tie breaker tournament (general category), culminating in the thrilling Vedanta U-15 girls tournament finals.

 The highlight of the event was a seminar held at SFA, featuring Dr Sadhvi Koyande, who delivered an insightful session on ‘Sports Injury Prevention in Female Athletes’.

 Concurrently, Dr Fauzia Shaikh engaged with young girls from STS, covering essential topics such as menstrual hygiene, diet, nutrition, and women’s empowerment. The sessions fostered open dialogue, allowing students to voice their concerns and queries, and nurturing a supportive environment.  The event was graced by Leena Verenkar, head of CSR/ESG/SCDF; Maymol Rocky, chairperson of the GFA Women’s Committee; Dr Sadhvi Koyande; AIFF Physiotherapist and Laxman Hadfadkar, head of Youth Development GFA, underscoring the significance of women’s representation and leadership in sports.
