PANJIM: Navelim Villagers Union edged past St Anthony Sports Club, Marna 3-2 to move into the quarter-finals of the 10th London Trophy football tournament, organized by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha SC ground, on Sunday.
After starting with an attacking intent with quick short passes, Dalesh Pednekar gave St Anthony Sports Club an early lead as he deflected a shot coming of Mukund Shirodkar after a dangerous corner kick taken by midfielder Sherwin Lobo to beat Cleton Gomes in the Navelim Villagers goal.
However, Navelim Villagers restored parity as Aldrich Coelho sent in a curving shot that beat Salil Chari in goal.
Clinton Niasso moved on the left flank of the Marna side but an on rushing Alvito failed to head the ball in.
Post resumption, St Anthony Sports Club went ahead as Vipul Pednekar was brought down in the box and Sherwin converted the resultant penalty.
Rovan Pereira sent Clinton Niasso through but his effort was pushed out for a corner by St Anthony Sports Club keeper Salil.
Sandy got the much needed equalizer for Navelim Villagers as he volleyed powerfully giving Salil no chance.
Navelim got the match-winner as Claudio Rodrigues headed the ball as Salil had moved up for an own-goal.
St Anthony Sports Club tried hard to make a come back but failed.
