RAIA: In a heart-pounding semi-final showdown, Navelim Sports Club emerged victorious over St Anthony’s Sports Club, 8-7, via the tie-breaker, securing a spot in the 22nd Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial tournament finals, at Musson grounds, Majorda on Wednesday. The regulation time ended 2-2.
Navelim Sports Club initially capitalised on their possessive prowess to secure a two-goal advantage, courtesy of Prestly Gomes and Velington Almeida. St Anthony Sports Club Assolda, however, exhibited remarkable resilience in the second half, ultimately levelling the score with goals from Viton Fernandes and Sunny Fernandes, forcing the match into a dramatic penalty shootout.
The intense match eventually required 16 penalties to determine the winner, with Valento Fernandes of Assolda unable to convert his penalty. Navelim SC held their nerve, clinching a hard-fought victory.
