MARGAO: Navelim Sporting Club downed CRC Chinchinim 5-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 34th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy football tournament organized by Navelim Sporting Club, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Wednesday.
At first half, Navelim Sporting Club were leading 2-0.
Navelim dominated in the first quarter and scored through Eldrich Coelho’s rasping shot in the 20th minute off a cross by Sandy Colaco.
CRC Chinchinim in the 24th minute made an attempt to equalise but Joston Rebello’s header was saved by the Navelim goalkeeper. Simon Simoes assisted.
Navelim doubled their lead when Eldrich Coelho’s well composed shot landed into rival goal off a pass by Clinton Niasso.
Crossing over, Navelim Sporting Club dominated and increased their tally in the 39th minute again through Eldrich. He later completed his hat-trick by a powerful grounder which straight crushed into the nets of CRC Chinchinim.
Confident Navelim soon made it 4-0 with Eldrich’s ground shot off a supply by Sandy Colaco in the 40th minute.
Thereafter, the strikers of CRC Chinchinim in the 41st and 43rd minutes lacked accuracy as Simon and Ashley Gomes failed to net in
Navelim scored their fifth goal with Sandy Gomes deft placement in the 55th minute after receiving a pass from Eldrich.
In the dying minutes, CRC Chinchinim reduced the margin through Sunny Souza’s ground shot after being fed by Ashley Rebello.
