NAVELIM: Navelim Sporting Club got the better of Goa Velha Sports Club 3-0 to sail into the semi-finals of the 36th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy inter-village football tournament, organised by Navelim Sporting Club, at Rosary ground, Navelim on Tuesday.
Navelim Sporting Club started the match brightly and dominated the opening quarter of the match. The hosts soon took the lead in the 18th minute through Trevis Souza with a neat placement shot.
Goa Velha Sports Club struggled to gain momentum as their players looked tired on the pitch. The Salcete team turned their domination into two goal lead in the 37th minute when Alvito Colaco found himself with only the keeper to beat and the lad made no mistake to slam the ball past the helpless keeper.
Navelim SC led 2-0 at the break.
Crossing ends, Goa Velha SC tried their best to get back into the game but they couldn’t get past the resolute Navelim defence.
Just when Goa Velha were pressing hard to score a goal, they suffered yet another blow when Trevis completed his brace with a spectacular goal in the 55th minute.
Navelim had the chance to consolidate their lead but their strikers fumbled upfront in the later stages of the game.
