CURTI-PONDA: Prestly Gomes scored the only goal of the match in the first half as Navelim Sporting beat Goan Warriors, Tivim to enter the final of 31st St. Anne’s Festival Inter-Village Soccer 2019 organized by Ponda Footballers powered by Dr. Ketan Bhatikar’s SPARC and SAG, at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti Ponda, on Saturday.
Navelim had the first attempt in the third minute when Rovan gave a through ball to Prestly but his shot was punched out by the keeper.
At other end, Kunal took the ball on the flanks and gave a diagonal pass to Milind but his shot sailed over from close range.
From the midfield, Brandon released a through ball to Prestly and he chipped over advancing keeper who just managed to touch his hands and the ball which kissed the crossbar.
This Navelim move brought the best out of the Tivim keeper as Rovan dodged a defender and took the ball on the side box and his shot was palm away by the keeper and the ball landed on Aulon’s head. His header was equally saved by the keeper as he jumped when he was on the ground to hold the ball.
The goal was a beauty as Rovan got the ball on top of the box facing backwards to goal and backheeled the ball to Prestly Gomes who took in his strides and blast into the goal to score the only goal of the match. Prestly Gomes was declared the SPARC man-of-the-match and ex Salgaocar keeper Servilo Caldeira gave away the prize.
Navelim Sporting will now take on SSC Loutolim in the final on July 28
