RAIA: Navelim Sporting Club struck at the death to pip Dunes Sports Club of Mandrem 1-0 to lift the Jaju Memorial Trophy in the finals of the inter-village football tournament organised by Young Strikers of Benaulim at St John de Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, Sunday.
Navelim were at the receiving end for the major part of the match but Mandrem could not break the deadlock despite dominating the proceedings.
After the breather, Navelim got going but Clinton Niasso shot over bar. Towards the fag end of the match, Navelim goalkeeper Jeet Gupta brought off a super save to deny Arun Naik of Mandrem.
As the match was heading towards the penalty shoot-out, Mandrem’s defender Jagannath and goalkeeper Pratik collided and the ball rolled towards Clinton Niasso who shot into the unguarded goal.

Best goal from long shot Alejo (Young Strikers, Benaulim). Best disciplined team Cuncolim Union. Best striker of final Prestley Gomes (Navelim SC). Best half of final Kritikesh Gadekar (Dunes SC, Mandrem). Best goalkeeper of final and man-of-the final Jeet Gupta (Navelim SC). Best defender of final Vivek Kanulkar (Dunes SC, Mandrem). First goal of final Clinton Niasso (Navelim SC).
Navelim were awarded Rs 50,000 thousand and a trophy and Dunes got Rs 40,000 and a trophy which were presented by Xavier Pereira, Sarpanch of Benaulim and Antoneta Goes in the presence of Anthony Pango, Brandon Fernandes, Kim Alemao, Roseferns, Anthony Fernandes, Andrew Ferrao, Glyda Rodrigues, Manoj Kesarkar, Felicia Noronha, Genciana Barretto, Resica Fernandes, Diella Fernandes ,Amilcar Babush Pereira, Ronnie Diniz.
