RAIA: Navelim Village Union triumphed over Benfica Youth Club, Vasco, with a 4-3 victory, advancing in the 25th all-Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side inter-village football tournament, organised by Sirlim Sports Club, at Chinchinim Church ground.
Sachin Borker scored in the 11th minute to put Benfica ahead, 1-0. Ronaldo Pereira equalised for Navelim in the 17th minute. Ronaldo scored again in the 23rd minute, giving Navelim a 2-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Benfica came out attacking, but Navelim’s goalkeeper Jeet made several crucial saves. However, Sachin scored his second goal in the 48th minute to level the score at 2-2. Ronaldo then completed his hat trick in the 51st minute, putting Navelim ahead, 3-2. Johan equalised for Benfica in the 53rd minute, but in the 56th minute, Venito Costa’s powerful 25-yard shot gave Navelim a 4-3 lead.
