ASSOLNA: Navelim Veterans defeated Quepem Veterans 4-1 to move into the quarter-final of the Assolna Veterans football tournament held at SAG ground Assolna, on Monday.
The best goal scoring chance fell to Johnson Pires in the 8th minute as the later was provided by Frank Fernandes. Minutes later, Quepem’s Dinesh Naik dribbled past Michael Crasto and Alexander Alvares of Navelim and shot from close range but the Navelim keeper Avertano Furtado saved the latter’s shot with a diving effort. Quepem’s Ivon Coutinho tested Navelim keeper Avertano in the next minute but Avertano palmed away the ball to safety.
As the match progressed to second half, Navelim went all out guns blazing at Quepem with Cajie Santiago netting the second with a placement shot for Navelim in the 47th minute.
After two minutes, Domnic Cabral got his name on the score sheet to make 3-0 for Navelim with a snap shot.
In the next minute, Quepem netted through Naresh Naik due to defensive lapse made by Navelim. As the match was about to end in the last minute, Cajie made it 4-1 for Navelim.
