MARGAO: Navelim Villagers Union scored an emphatic 2-0 win over Carmona Sports Club to cruise into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Bebe Costa Memorial Super Soccer tournament organized by United Club of Benaulim, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.
Both the goals came in the first half.
Navelim Villagers Union dominated the game and pushed their opponents on the back foot. Navelim Villagers Union were the aggressive side, showing urgency by calling the shots at the rival goal. Alvito Colaco opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a snap shot.
Navelim Villagers intensified their attacks and piled on the pressure on the rival defence. Alvito was terrorizing the Carmona defence, who was having a tough time to contain him.
It was no surprise that Alvito was brought down by rival defender Ryan inside the Carmona penalty box and referee pointed out at the dreaded spot. Wilton Gomes stepped up to put the ball in the back of the net sending the keeper the wrong way.
After taking a 2-0 lead, Navelim Villagers Union sat back and soaked the pressure for the remaining of the match and cruised to a comfortable victory.
