BENAULIM: Navelim Villagers Union defeated SC Davorlim 2-0 to enter into the semi-finals of the 28th Super soccer football tournament organised by United Boys of Dando, at the Dando ground, Benaulim, on Saturday.
Avlon Gomes of Navelim Villagers Union was the hero of the match as he scored the brace to help his team eliminate SC Davorlim in the quarters.
It was Avlon Gomes of Navelim Villagers Union who took control of the ball from Suraj Naik and from the top of the box released his shot but it hit the rival post.
Covan Lawrence was dictating play for the Navelim side who rolled the ball to Avlon Gomes and this time the striker shot Navelim Villagers Union into lead.
SC Davorlim trailing by a goal tried to find the nets but the teams went into the breather with the score reading 1-0 in favour of Navelim Villagers Union.
Post resumption, Navelim Villagers Union played a defensive match and attacked through counters however SC Davorlim were in full control constantly pressurising the rivals until Avlon who doubled the lead in the 55th minute after Ariston Costa fed him a beautiful ball inside the box.
