Navelim Villagers Union clinch Coutinho Family Trophy

RAIA: Navelim Villagers Union defeated Guardian Angel SC, Curchorem, 5-3 via tie-breaker to emerge champions in the Coutinho Family inter-village football tournament organised by Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado in association with Cuncolim Union at Cuncolim school ground, on Sunday.

Both teams were tied at 1-1 in the normal time. Welington Almeida gave lead to Navelim Villagers Union in the first session which was later cancelled by Pele Costa for Guardian Angel SC in the second session.

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Aden Pereria, Sadroy D’Costa, Ronaldo Pereira and Terence Miranda scored for Navelim Villagers Union, while only Rayan Menezes and Princen Miranda shoot on target for Guardian Angel SC.  

Navelim Villagers Union were richer by Rs 60,000 and a trophy, while Guardian Angel SC had to be content with Rs 40,000 plus trophy. 

Fr Ermito Coutinho was the chief guest and handed over the trophies in the presence of guest of honour Rajan Naik, former MLA; Dr Poonam Dessai, special invitees CMC Chairperson Landry Mascarenhas, CMC Councillor Anthony Vaz, former Superintendent of Police Tony Fernandes, social worker Bhiku Dessai, Police Inspector Navlesh Dessai, former footballer Ulhas Naik, CACA President Fila Borges, Delton Almeida, Siddesh Kurade, Krishna Shirodkar and other dignitaries.
