SIRLIM: Navelim Villagers Union got the better of Rossman Cruz, Nagoa-Verna 4-2 to move into the quarter-finals of the 22nd Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side football tournament organised by Sirlim Sports Club, at Our Lady of Hope church ground, Chinchinim, on Monday.
It didn’t take long for Navelim to open the account as within four minutes Clinton Niasso took a blistering shot which brushed the legs of Rossman defender and moved into the Rossman net off Prestly Gomes’ assist.
Navelim doubled the lead through Prestly Gomes in the 25th minute.
It was again Clinton Niasso of Navelim who netted a brace to make it 3-0 for Navelim in the 42nd minute. Seven minutes later, Rossman’s Hilton Fernandes made it 1-3. Myron Fernandes netted to make it 2-3 for Rossman in the 54th minute.
With just four minutes left for the final whistle, Clinton Niasso of Navelim took a powerful volley to complete his hat-trick and take the final tally to 4-2 for Navelim.
Navelim Villagers Union will now meet Ambelim SC in the quarter-finals on August 6.
