MARGAO: Navelim Villagers Union knocked out Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club 6-5 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 6th Our Lady of Fatima Cup Football tournament, organized by Dicarpale Sports Club, at Dicarpale ground, on Monday. There was no score at full time.
Sao Jose de Areal SC could have taken an early lead when Monty Valadres was brought down inside the danger zone.
However, off the resultant spot-kick, Monty saw his effort hit the upright as the ball went out of play.
Crossing over, the teams tried hard to score but their strikers lacked sharpness.
In the 42nd minute, Monty’s move was foiled by the rival defence.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Navelim Villagers Union scored through Joseph Dias, Anil Shirodkar, Bitu Singh, Jovel Pires and Clinton Niasso while Sao Jose de Areal SC scored through Ashwin Travasso, Monty Valadres, Stefin Costa, Peter Costa and Aggie Antao.
