MAPUSA: Nerul Sports Club registered a fluent 3-1 win over Sai Avtaar Anjuna Sports Club to enter the semi-finals of the Pio Jose Gouveia memorial inter-village football tournament, organised by Youth Sports Club Colvale, at Colvale church ground on Wednesday.
In the first minute Anjuna’s Marvoti Horizon missed an easy opportunity by placing the ball wide with just the Nerul keeper Daphen Rodrigues to beat.
At the other end Nerul too missed in the 21st minute to take the lead with Navin Shirodkar missing an easy tap in of Pavan Dharghalkar cross.
On resumption, Nerul colts finally forged ahead through Chaitan Dhabolkar neat placement while Sai Avtaar equalised with Jesmon Carvalho scoring from the penalty spot, 1-1.
Nerul outfit had better of the exchanges scored in quick succession in the 53rd and 55th minutes through Chaitan Dhabolkar and Deu Sangelkar making it 3-1.
Sai Avtaar’s Pratik Dharghalkar bagged the Man-of-the-Match award.
