CALANGUTE: Nerul Sports Club overcame Wilred Leisure, Curtorim 2-0 in 4th Rusi Daver memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Adarsh Yuvak Sangh at Saligao ground, Tuesday.
Wilred Leisure began on a promising note and could have taken the lead in the fifth minute but Nerul goalkeeper Nikhlesh affected a brilliant save off Casmiro Fernandes to deny him.
Wilred Leisure kept attacking the Nerul defence time and again but their forwards failed to score.
Stunned by the scare, Nerul regrouped and got their act together. They conducted well orchestrated raids at the rivasl citadel. Their efforts materialized when they forged ahead in the 20th minute through Ritesh Gaonkar off a pass from Deepraj Sangelkar.
Down by a goal, Wilred Leisure went all-out in search of the equalizer but to no avail.
Nerul doubled the lead in the 60th minute through Atish Gaonkar off Sarvesh cross.
