MAPUSA: Nerul SC scored a comfortable 2-0 win over Candolim Sports Club to move into the semi-finals of the Saligao United Soccer Cup played at Candolim ground, on Wednesday.
It was Nerul SC who had the first crack at the rival goal when in the 22nd minute Paul Cardozo unleashed a blistering right footer from inside the danger zone which was acrobatically pushed to safety by the diving Candolim SC keeper Xavier Estrocio.
Four minutes later, Candolim SC almost went a goal down, however defender Stanley D’Silva came with a goalline clearance to keep Paul’s strike from entering the goal.
Crossing over, Nerul SC showed more precision in their attack and shot into the lead in the 55th minute of play from the penalty spot after defender Stanley was found guilty of handling the ball inside the danger zone. Aniket Agarwadekar made no mistake in scoring from the resultant penalty kick, 1-0.
Three minutes later, Candolim SC almost netted in the equalizer but Sigmund Silveira’s strike banged the Nerul SC upright.
After a couple of minutes, Nerul SC doubled their lead when Paul’s powerful shot crashed into the Candolim SC goal, giving no chance to keeper Estrocio.
