PANJIM: The AIFF has changed the format for youth competitions with the approval of the AIFF Technical Committee, from the upcoming season, with a view to enhance the development of young footballers so as to align with best practices.
Following the recommendations of experts and stakeholders, the following formats will now be implemented. Under-13 category 7×7. Under-15 category 9×9 and Under-17 category 11×11.
AIFF General Secretary, Shaji Prabhakaran stated that the new formats have been chosen so as to optimise the learning experience for young players, while allowing them to develop their technical skills, tactical understanding and physical abilities progressively as they advance through the age categories.
Shaji pointed out that the changes have been finalised after thorough consideration and extensive consultations with the Technical Committee, as well as engaging with State Member Associations and clubs. He requested the associations for their cooperation in implementing the new formats and ensure a smooth transition between the age groups.
For Under-13 (7×7) the length shall be 45m to 55m, width 28m to 32m, goalpost 7foot by 20foot. The penalty area length shall be 10m and the width 18m. Minimum players 5. Matchday players 7+6. Max squad size 18 players. Substitution Rolling. Match duration 25minx2. Break time 8 min. Football size 4. Off-side – No. Minimum distance 6 yards. Outside – kick-in. Referees 2. Coaches AIFF C.
For Under-15 (9×9) the length shall be 65m to 75m, width 45m to 55m, goalpost 7×20 feet. Penalty area length 13.5m and width 25m. Format 9×9. Minimum players 6. Matchday players 9+7. Maximum squad size 20 players. Substitutions 5. Match duration 30minx2. Break time 10minutes. Football size 5. Off-side – Yes. Minimum distance 8 yards. Outside -Throw-in. Referees 3. Coaches AIFF/AFC B.
For Under-17 (11×11), the length shall be 90m to 105 m, width 45m to 65m, goalpost 8×24 feet. The Laws of the Game shall apply. Format 11×11. Minimum players 7. Matchday players 11+9. Maximum squad size 23 players. Substitution 5. Match duration 40min x 2. Break time 12 minutes. Football size 5. Off-side – Yes. Minimum distance 10 yards. Outside – Throw-in. Referees 3. Coaches AIFF/AFC B.
