MAPUSA: Nicholas Fernandes’ goal in the 34th minute helped Youth Club of Manora to register a solitary goal win over Velsao Sports & Cultural Club in the Goa Football Association Selvel Goa Professional League, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.
Both the teams fighting for relegation saw Velsao bolstered by the return of Peter Carvalho in the starting line-up who could have put his team ahead in the 12th minute but his header from a corner-kick taken by Brian Mascarenhas was confidently collected by Manora keeper Luis Barreto.
Manora after squandering a number of scoring opportunities finally took the lead in the 34th minute through Nicholas Fernandes who after dribbling a host of Velsao defenders entered the penalty box and drilled in a low shot to the far corner of the net giving no chance to Velsao keeper Presley Mascarenhas.
The match was then mostly restricted to midfield with the keepers being hardly tested.
