Niraj Sarapalli retains 3rd All Goa Open Rapid Chess championship

MAPUSA: Niraj Sarapalli of Salcete taluka retained the championship with 7.50 points out of 8 pts toremain unbeaten in the 3rd all Goa open one day rapid chess tournament organised by “Rotary Club of Mapusa elite and Bardez Taluka Chess Assocation under the aegis of Goa Chess Assocation, at Sai Baba temple Hall, Canca-Mapusa, recently.
He received a cash prize of Rs 7,500 and winner’s trophy.
Shane Alvarin Braganca of Tiswadi taluka with 7 pts claimed the runners up trophy and cash prize of Rs 5,000. 
 Devesh Anand Naik of Ponda taluka with 7 pts settled for third place with cash prize of Rs 3,500 and a trophy. 
Ishan Sanjay Pagi of Salcete taluka with 6.50 pts finished in fourth place with cash prize of Rs 2,500 and a trophy.
 Wilson Cruz of Ponda taluka with 6.50 pts bagged fifth place with cash prize of Rs 2,000 and a trophy.  
Cash prizes and trophies were also given for next 6th to 20th place winners.
A total of 177 players participated out of which 60 were rated players.
The prizes were given  away by chief guest WRD & Fisheries Minister Vinod Palyekar in presence of President of Rotary club of Mapusa elite Pratap Parab, President of BTCA Vishwas Pilankar, Secretary of Mapusa elite Korgaonkar, Nandakishor Arolkar, Chief Arbiter Arvind Mhamal and tournament coordinator Paresh Palyekar.
