PANJIM: Nirakar Vidyalaya and Katyayani Baneshwar Vidyalaya won their respective matches to move ahead in the under-16 Deelip Sardesai inter-school cricket tournament match, at Nirakar Maidan, Dapot-Mashem, on Thursday.
Nirakar Vidyalaya got the better of Damodar Vidyalaya by nine wickets in the first match. Nirakar won the toss and elected to field and bowled out Damodar for 78 runs in 17.2 overs.
Ram Bandekar (18) top scored while Rohan Lumaji picked up three wickets for 11 runs and Akshay Gaokar clinched two wickets for just two runs.
In reply, Nirakar chased the score in 6.2 overs with nine wickets in hand. Gowardhan Sarvankar was the star performer with 32 runs.
In the second match, Katyayani Baneshwar Vidyalaya defeated Mallikarjun Vidyalaya by 56 runs.
Katyayani won the toss and elected to bat. They posted 143/6 in the allotted 20 overs.
Manish Naik Gaokar was simply outstanding with a 66 unbeaten knock.
Saish Kamat contributed a vital 26 runs. Saideep Pagi (2/16) and Akash Bhandari (2/40) performed well with the ball for Mallikarjun.
Mallikarjun were all out for 87 in 17.2 overs.
