PANJIM: Goa Carbon brand ambassador WGM Bhakti Kulkarni scored 6 points and won the best Women prize (2nd place) as she held FM Ergaisi Arjun and GM Neeloptal Das (rating 2471) to a draw, in the 11th Mayors Cup International Grandmasters tournament held at Mumbai, recently.
Geno Pharmaceuticals brand ambassador FM Nitish Belurkar won the 16th place out of 25 main prizes.
In a strong field of 21 GM’s and 19 IM’s, Nitish scored 7 points out of 10 to finish ahead of many other IM’s and GM’s. GM Farrukh Amonatov of Tazakhistan won the championship with 8 points.
Nitish was at his clinical best in the final game where he demolished WFM Divya Deshmukh in just 28 moves. In an earlier game, Nitish held Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh to a draw.
Both FM Nitish and WGM Bhakti are slated to participate in International tournaments in France and Spain next month.
