PANJIM: Geno Pharmaceuticals brand ambassador, 12-year-old Goan Nitish Belurkar held Super GM K. Sasikiran to a draw in a simultaneous display in the ongoing 2nd International Grandmasters tournament, at Hyderabad, Tuesday.
Sasikiran did not lose a single game during the exhibition.
K. Sasikaran is the only Grandmaster from India to outsmart former world champion Viswanthan Anand. Now he is also well known as an important member of Team Anand. Sasi praised Nitish’ play after he offered a draw to his young adversary.
Nitish employed razor sharp King’s Indian Defence against Sasikiran. Though Sasi obtained a good position in the initial stages, Nitish fought back with a clever trap and was in fact enjoying an advantage. However, the experienced Grandmaster defended well and in the end offered Nitish a truce.
Nitish will participate in the World Youth Chess Championship at Al Ain,United Arab Emirates latter this month.
“My draw with Super GM Sasikiran is a real moral booster,” said the student of Sharada Mandir, Mira Mar.
