PANJIM: Fide Master Nitish Belurkar won bronze medal in Asian Junior Blitz Chess Championship at Solo, Indonesia.
Nitish, a student of SS Dempo College of Commerce, defeated IM Nguyen Anh Khoi of Vietnam in the final round to score 5 points out of 7 to secure the third place for India. IM Quizon Daniel of Phillipines won the gold. Indian players got a total of three medals in the open section, and four medals in the girls section. Nitish was congratulated by Goa Chess Association President Nilesh Cabral, All India Chess Federation Treasurer and GCA Secretary Kishor Bandekar and officials of Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association.
Nitish will next represent the Indian team at Abu Dhabhi Masters Chess Championship next month.
