PANJIM: Geno Brand Ambassador FM Nitish Belurkar secured 6th place at the National U-17 Chess Championship, held at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, recently.
Nitish scored eight points out of possible 11 with six wins and four draws. Nitish last two games with eventual champion CM Raja Rithvik of Telangana and top seed FM Ergaissi Arjun also of Telangana, both ended in hard fought draws. Nitish had to fight for another hard fought draw in the 8th round with FM V S. Rathanve of Tamil Nadu. Nitish bounced back with a brilliant victory over Sibi Visal of Tamil Nadu in the 9th round.
Nitish, who has already secured one IM norm in Olumuc, Czech Republic will next participate in IM norm tournaments in Stockholm and Prague next month.
