No free private sports coaching by govt: Gaude

PORVORIM: The State government has declined to grant free private sports coaching, but, is contemplating to provide free coaching to financially weak sportspersons.

Replying to a Private Member’s resolution tabled by Saligao MLA Kedar Naik, Sports Minister Govind Gaude said, “The government can facilitate identifying coaches for private coaching but it will not offer it for free.”

“I have been fully focussed on sports for the past four months. I have replied to various points during the demands for grants. Regarding private coaching, first of all the government has its own coaching service and secondly the private academies charge from the sportspersons. We cannot intervene in private free coaching but we can help find out coaches who can provide private coaching,” he said, appealing the Legislator to give six months to remove hurdles from all disciplines in sports.

His reply was in response to Naik’s resolution that stated, “This House strongly recommends the government to grant relaxation to exceptional sportsmen in government service, grant sports facilities to conduct private coaching classes without charges for personal training to budding sportsmen, allotment of comunidade plots to sportsmen and monthly compensation to exceptional sportsmen.”

To another Private Member’s resolution tabled by Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo seeking repair and reconstruction of Chapora Jetty, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte reiterated assurance to take care of the heritage site.

The legislators withdrew the resolution following the replies.
