VARCA: Novangully blanked Fatrade B 2-0 to move into the final of the Chelsea Memorial Varca inter-ward football tournament, organised by United Boys of Varca and played at Varca ground, on Wednesday.
Novangully dominated both the halves.
Rosario D’Costa, the lanky striker, opened the scoring with a downward header off Jhonus D’Costa’s cross in the 4th minute. Rosario almost doubled the lead in the next minute but his close range effort kissed the crossbar and came back into the play which came into Salim Shaik’s way, but the latter shot straight at the Fatrade keeper Jenito Vaz.
Fatrade B through Avinash Fernandes took a curler shot which was brilliantly saved by Novangully keeper Mohammed Shaik.
At the other end, Novangully missed a glorious opportunity to double the lead but Bapan Soyal shot blindly into the safe hands of the the Fatrade keeper.
As the match progressed Fatrade Nigel Pires and Avinash attacked but Mohammed Shaik keeper of Novangully stood rock solid in the goal.
It was a long shot of Mohammed which hit the Fatrade defender and coolly sailed into Fatrade nets to make it 2-0 for Novangully in the 39th minute. Novangully dominated the second session and gave no room for their opponents to play.
Fatrade tried their level best to equalise but Novangully defence line was stood tall with Quelon Alemao, Salim Shaik and Bapab Soyal guarding the defence line.
