Nuvem Parish Youth clinch Archbishop’s Trophy

PANJIM: Nuvem Parish Youth from Verna Deanery won the Archbishop’s Trophy, an all-Goa Diocesan Youth Football tournament 2024, organised by Diocesan Youth Centre (DYC-GOA) in collaboration with John Paul II Foundation for Sports, at Father Agnel Ashram ground, Verna. Curtorim Parish Youth from Raia Deanery were the runners-up.

A total of 16 deaneries participated in the tournament which included 28 parishes, 16 teams of boys for 11-a-side football and 12 teams of girls for 5-a-side tie-breaker. 

Meislein Barretto from Nuvem Parish won the best striker, Joy Hilario from Curtorim Parish won the best defender and Anrick Dias from Nuvem Parish won the best goalkeeper. 

Girls of Navelim Parish Youth won the tie-breaker with Arambol Parish Youth being the runners-up. 

The tournament was meticulously executed by Fr Blaise Lobo, Director of the Diocesan Youth Centre, along with Kennedy D’Silva, Director of the John Paul II Foundation for Sports (Goa) in the presence of the chief guest for the day Fr Dyrel Dias. Fr Jovial Fernandes, Fr Snyter Pereira, Fr Baltazar Fernandes, Fr Mowin D’Costa, Fr Maurice Collaco, Fr Dylon Dias, Fr Michael Fernandes and Fr Agnelo Gomes were also present to motivate youngsters during the matches.
