Nuvem SC finish on top

MARGAO: Nuvem Sports Club edged past Immaculate Conception Sports Club (ICSC), Paroda 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the final to lift the Varca Panchayat football cup, organized by Varca Sports Club, at Varca ground, on Sunday.

MARGAO: Nuvem Sports Club edged past Immaculate Conception Sports Club (ICSC), Paroda 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the final to lift the Varca Panchayat football cup, organized by Varca Sports Club, at Varca ground, on Sunday. There was no score at full time. 
In the first half both teams played an attacking game. Nuvem SC should have found the ball at the back of net of ICSC Paroda through Albino Pereira in the third minute but his grounder hit the upright and went out of play after a supply by Cyston Pereira.
Thereafter, ICSC attacked through Kanchan Kiro in the 20th minute but the latter’s fierce shot which hit a defender of Nuvem SC and was eventually saved by the goalkeeper of Nuvem SC.
Change of ends saw both teams dominate the match with upfront moves by the strikers but they missed a couple of chances to score.
ICSC through Micky Vaz ballooned a shot over the cross piece of Nuvem SC in 53rd minute off a supply by Kanchan Kiro while Nuvem SC through Stanly Colaco missed to score.
As the score was goalless draw, the tie-breaker was enforced in which Nuvem SC scored through Godfrey Mascarenhas, Albino Pereira, Mceugene Fernandes, Standly Colaco and Cyston Pereira while ICSC converted through Anthony Dias, Hyginus Fernandes, Kanchan Kiro and Micky Vaz.
The winners were awarded Rs 50,000 and a trophy and the runners-up took home Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
The individual prizes awarded to First goal of the final: Anthony Dias of ICSC. Highest scorer of the tournament and Best player of the final: Albino Pereira of Nuvem SC. Best midfielder of the final: Manish Oliveira of ICSC. Best defender of the final: Godfrey Mascarenhas of Nuvem SC. Best goalkeeper of the final: Joel Colaco of Nuvem SC. Hero of the final: Clayson Pereira of Nuvem SC. First hat-trick of the tournament: Santan Rego of Rossman SC Nagoa-Verna. Best disciplined team: Pilerne SC. Senior most player of the final: Anthony Dias of ICSC.
Pio Vales, Headmaster of St Mary High School, Varca was the chief guest  and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners up in the presence of Racheal Fernandes, who participated in Special Olympics in Los Angeles.
President of the club, Charlton Lourenco welcomed. Simon Fernandes introduced the players to the guests and Domnic Noronha compered. Charlton the proposed vote of thanks.
