SINQUETIM-NAVELIM: Nuvem Veterans registered a solitary goal victory against Joe Cookies Veterans to lift the 7th Navelim Veterans Cup, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Sunday.
Both teams started off aggressively, leaving gaps in defence which led to Nuvem’s Avelino Rodriguez scoring the all-important goal in the 15th minute of the first half.
In the second half , Marcus Carvalho and Joe Colaco played aggressive football and created many opportunities for Nuvem but failed to convert. Diogo Cardozo of Joe Cookies missed a chance to double the lead in the 50th minute. The Joe Cookies players tried hard to get back in the game but their strikers weren’t clinical in front of goal.
The winners were awarded Rs. 30,000 and runners-up had to be content Rs. 25,000 plus trophies.
Fr. Arlino De Melo, parish priest of Our Lady Of Rosary Church, Navelim was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Micky Rebello GFDC coach, Avertano Furtado ex- Minister for Fisheries, Edwin Cardozo ZP member, Jose Santarito Coelho, Chairman of G.F.A Refree, Babinda Gonsalves, Sarpanch VP Navelim and other dignitaries and club officials.
