Oilex helps host Raia Sporting retain Custodio Trophy

A brilliant brace by Oilex Olveira in the 14th and 23rd minutes and a goal by Joston Barbosa helped the team clinch the title

MARGAO: A brilliant brace by Oilex Olveira helped host Raia Sporting Club outplay Parish Youth, Nuvem 3-2 to inscribe their name on 43rd Custodio memorial Trophy, an inter-village football tournament organized by Raia Sporting Club, at panchayat ground, Raia on Tuesday. 
Raia Sporting led 2-0 at half time.  Playing in front of festive crowd, Raia Sporting Club did not disappoint their fans and held the upper hand with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence under tremendous pressure.
Oilex broke the deadlock in the 14th minute when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot off a pass from Rahul Dias. The early goal boosted the morale of Raia Sporting players as they launched barrage of attacks. Oilex, who was fulcrum in his team’s attacks, struck second midway in the 23rd minute by beating the rival goalkeeper Francisco Fernandes hands down.
Post resumption, Parish Youth, who were struggling in the first half, came up with improved display and trouble the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. However, Joston Barbosa scored in the 50th minute to give Raia Sporting a 3-0 lead. 
Down by 0-3, Parish Youth intensified their attacks in search of goals. Jerose Olveira reduced the margin with snap shot in the 51st minute. The reducer helped Nuvem lads to boost their confidence as they piled up pressure on the rival citadel. 
Remmy Colaco pulled one more back in the 53rd minute when he punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
In the remaining seven minutes of the match, the fans started screaming on top of their voices as both the teams made several attempts to score, but the score sheet remained at 3-2 in favour of Raia Sporting Club.
The winners were richer by Rs 43,000 and a trophy while Parish Youth, Nuvem had to settle with cash purse of Rs 25,000. 
Industrialist Dattaraj Salgaocar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of former South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha.
