RAIA: Our Lady of Carmel High School, Curtorim, edged past St Xavier’s Institute, Curtorim, 4-2 via tie-breaker in the inaugural match to move ahead in the next round of 2nd All-Goa Inter-School Football tournament organised by St Joseph’s Ex-Students Association, Chandor, at Chandor church ground, on Monday.
St Xavier’s Institute held the upper hand in the second half but the Carmel defenders thwarted all the moves of the Xaviers. At the end of the regulation time, both teams were held to a goalless draw.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Dawson Sardinha, Nathan Sequeira, Moswen Vaz and Kyzie Moura scored for Our Lady of Carmel High School, while only Akash Nagekar and Jonathan D’Cunha were successful for St Xavier’s.
Roosevelt Fernandes was declared the man-of-the-match, which was handed over by Egido D’Costa, vice-president of the association. Earlier, Fr Afzal Fernandes, assistant parish priest Chandor who was the chief guest inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Sandeep Kalekar, president of Chandor Seamen Association. Anthony Pereira compered the function.
